Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (2024): Movie Review

Sonic 3 is a pretty delight and entertaining ride from start to finish. This franchise is an all time video game franchise.

Sonic 3 is an anime come to life. Once again directed by Jeff  Fowler, this film has a returning cast of actors like Ben Schwarz, Idris Elba, Jim Carrey and many others and ofcourse stars Yen Reeves as shadow the hedgehog. It's nice to see a director stick around for a whole trilogy usually kind of allows it to have a little bit more of a unified vision.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (2024): Movie Review

Sonic 3 opens up and we instantly introduced to the fact that shadow has been imprisoned for about 50 years or so and he is now being released by a second Robotnik . There are two Robotnik in this film . Jim Carrey plays two characters and this time around a new threat that arises who is grandfather of Robotnik that we've been following. So now the two of them work together with shadow to try to know do their evil masterminding while Sonic Tails and Knuckles must work together to try to find a way to stop them.

The movie successfully captures the charm, humor that fans have come to love while taking the franchise to exciting new heights with well paced plot and with right mix of heartfelt moments and epic action. It never loses it's buoyant sense of storytelling. Visually Sonic 3 is pretty catchy and vibrant detailed animation brings the world of Sonic to life, making every high speed chase and battle sequence a feast for the eyes.

Sonic 3 is more than a movie and best in the franchise. It's a celebration that makes Sonic a beloved icon. Indeed, an excellent film to take your whole family to cinema and have a good laugh. Carrey remains the best part of this franchise with his wild face and insane line delivery. Have to say this movie won't make you disappoint as Carrey holds the burden throughout the movie, he is the real star of the film. Where many franchise Sequels only focus on money bringing content, Sonic 3 also fits in that category but with rightful approach where audience feel freshness with nostalgic memories, Sonic 3 is a clear winner that. The film wastes no screen time. A perfect film for holiday.

Fowler's direction and screenplay showcase actual love and care for souce material. Fowler depicts the iconic video game characters properly, also he nails the favourite fan character of Shadow, while shadow remains as a dark character, Sonic 3 takes necessary time to provide his anguished backstory. The biggest drawback to previous installment was the lack of exploiting the soundtrack and BGM.

While Sonic 3 builds to a stunning emotional crescendo, film ends on a note that leaves audiences gasping and excited for more. The Sonic hedgehog franchise has it's pros and cons, and if it can be more good, then more entries like Soni 3 would welcome cinematic experiences. It's one of the few rare Sequels that fans and audience go to see theatres to feel the rhythm of movies. A family entertainer to enjoy this Christmas with your whole family only in cinemas.
