Wicked which was released this month has already achieved several milestones since it was released on the box office worldwide.
It was unexpected the way Wicked performed on the box office and still it's doing marvels as bringing massive cash to it's production. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba Thropp and Ariana Grande as Galinda Upland, Wicked is set in before and after the events of original The Wizard of Oz.
Audience encounters the story of Elphaba and her friendship with Galinda . By this time Wicked has become the highest grossing film ever set in the wizarding place of Oz earning more than 525 million dollars eclipsing Oz and the great powerful which made 493 millions worldwide. It also surpassed earlier several Highest grossing films in domestic market. After earning 47 millions on it's opening day, the film went on to debut with massive 112 dollars million in USA and 163 million dollars worldwide. On its second weekend, film collected another 80 million dollars, earning over 250 million dollars in USA, thus becoming the highest grossing in musical drama genre in local market snatching the crown from previous holder Grease. With 35 million dollars in third weekend, it made 455 million dollars worldwide.
Now by 25 december, earning 392 millions in domestic market, Wicked has left spider man far from home, guardians of the galaxy vol 2 and many other earlier winner films becoming one of the highest movie ever grossed in American local cinema history.
If we look back in recent past years, musical dramas have been disasters or less money making tools like Spielberg's epic remake of old but cult classic like west side story with a huge buzz among the film professionals and everybody was tagging it as a blockbuster even before arriving in cinemas. But when finally it hit in theatres, people were not keen to watch again a remake of classic in an era of remakes, Sequels and prequel and money making franchises. Even it was a career downfall for Spielberg who was giving blockbuster one by one where every project he gave green signal ended up a box office surprise.
Before that films like in heights and many other flicks went box office tanks and brought the hollywood industry thinking over about the efforts to push the audience back in cinema where they could spend a quality time exploring the never seen before visual ideas and experience in theatre. Now in this social media age, genre like music drama is losing it's touch, where you can watch a lot musical sequences on the phone for free then why need to pay for a ticket. Now Wicked has pushed the viewers back in theatre, we can rely on the hope that people would show interest in watching musicals in theatre.
2025 is coming with movie musical like Snow White and Michael and Frozen 3, Moana sequel in later years telling fairy tales on big screen. Snow white which is set to release in March 2025, it's one of the highly anticipated movie people looking forward to watch only in theatre expecting same experience they had in previous original.

Wicked is one of the highest grossing movie of 2024 in Domestic market as well as worldwide. And we will see more records it definitely would make. Wicked also scored high ranting and reviews from critics and audiences. People are showering love and praises as declaring it a faithful and one of the best Musicals ever made in cinema history.
We wouldn't be surprised if Wicked sweep this year's awards as far as people guess who experienced it.
